Hi Y’all I just want to telly ya how much I love Pinterest. Pinterest has become my new best friend. I never started using Pinterest until I became a blogger. My friends would tell me of all these different recipes and crafts they found on Pinterest. At the time I did not need inspiration to cook and I never enjoyed crafting or DIY. My family calls crafts craps but that is besides the point. I never saw any real reason to use Pinterest until I started blogging three years ago. Pinterest has become my new BFF as of the last six months. My Pinterest traffic has more than quadrupled in the past month. The only thing I did differently was use Pinterest. Pinterest has become my number one source of traffic on my blog. For the past two years I really had no idea what I was doing as a blogger. Go way back into my blog archives and you will see what I mean. But look at me now I can blog with the best of them. Now I am ready to take my blog to the next level and really make a full time income from my blog. I quit my tutoring job and decided that the risk is worth the reward. For the longest time I could not get past 26,000 monthly Pinterest views. I had hit a plateau and needed to change and fast. To my sheer ingnorance I did not know that reworking my strategy would increase my monthly views by 3000%. I was flabbergasted how fast I had hit 1 million views in just 4 weeks. I still am so amazed by this that I had to share with you how I did this.
WHAT DO PINTEREST MONTHLY VIEWS MEAN??
Your monthly Pinterest view count is part of your overall reach on Pinterest. These are potential readers that are able to see your pins in their feed which could potentially lead to more traffic directed to your site. Prior to changing my strategy, my blog would probably get less than 100 page views. Now I am getting well over 3,000 page views!! Check it out for yourself!
HERE’S WHAT YOU CAN DO!
CREATE BEAUTIFUL PINS
You probably know this by now if you are a blogger but first impressions are everything. The first thing that draws you to a pin on Pinterest is the image and text, no?What draws you to a pin when you play around on Pinterest? Most likely it is the image and text, Your reader isn’t any different! Creating beautiful pins is of the utmost importance if you care about growing your brand. Here’s what you need to do to make your pins stand out!
VERTICAL PINS ONLY
- Horizontal and vertical pins are allowed, but vertical pins have been proven to do better than the horizontal pins. The image should be at least 735px x 1200px, BUT really it’s more like 735px x infinity. The longer the pin the better! I usually create my pins on PicMonkey, but if you prefer something else use what you like best to create your Pinterest Pins.
- UPDATE (FEB 2018): Pinterest has recently been cutting the extra long pins! It seems like they are cutting off around 1800px in height!
SHOW OFF YOUR BRAND
- The greatest part about creating your own pins is making them yours. Your pins should show off your brand colors and fonts. And most importantly, your website must be visible! You want people to start recognizing your brand and who you are.
GRAB THEIR ATTENTION
- Your images, colors, and fonts need to be on point, of course. You also need to grab their attention with a catchy title. People come to Pinterest to find a solution, whether it’s how to cook something, date night outfit ideas or blogging tips. My most popular posts start with some type of solution. Posts like How To, # Ways, or a FREE something. Grab their attention!
CLEAN UP YOUR PROFILE
This one is probably the most important of them all. Cleaning up your profile is key to growing on Pinterest, especially if you are trying to build your brand! If you want to be taken seriously on Pinterest, clean up that profile, people!
Here’s what you need to have:
- Profile photo that is cute and professional. Make sure it shows off who YOU are.
- Fill in your About Me!
- Branded board covers
- Pin descriptions that contain keywords and hashtags

TREAT PINTEREST LIKE GOOGLE
If you don’t know by now, let me fill you in. Pinterest works like Google!! This means that you have to treat Pinterest like a Search Engine so it is very important to focus on Search Engine Optimization (SEO). This means you need to make sure you are using the right keywords in your about me, pin descriptions, and board descriptions. If you want to read about how I look for the right keywords, you can read about it here.
You may have read that more manual pinning is the way to get noticed on Pinterest this year, well this is the one of the few things in my strategy that I have NEVER changed. There are several apps out there now where you are able to set your pinning on autopilot by scheduling them ahead of time. Don’t get me wrong, those apps are awesome. I use them! I have just always been into Pinterest ever since it was created so manual pinning is something I do in my spare time & actually enjoy it! Luckily, it has been bringing in GREAT results.
JOIN PINTEREST GROUP BOARDS
This is something new I have done and boy, do I love it! You can grow your business even with a small following! The bigger the group the better! Let’s say you have 200 followers, if you were to join a group board with over 100,000 followers, you will be able to get your posts shown to a bigger audience aka more people seeing your pin!
PIN OTHER PINNER’S CONTENT
Pinterest loves when you pin other people’s content! Every day I spend about 20 minutes to scroll down my feed and pin anything that is related to my niche. This is actually pretty fun. It allows me to stay up to date with everything that is trending.
REPIN YOUR OWN PINS
So after my regular routine of pinning other people’s content, I repin a few of my pins. I like to repin my top 3 posts and repin posts that need some more love
JOIN FACEBOOK GROUPS
If you haven’t joined any Facebook groups yet, do it now! Majority of these groups have specific days where you are able to share your pins in the group and then everyone in the group starts sharing each other’s content! It’s great!
SET PINS ON AUTOPILOT
As I had mentioned earlier, I am naturally more of a manual pinner, but to help me out, even more, I set them up on autopilot. I personally use Tailwind and I love it! It is super easy to use. Joining Tribes are EVERYTHING. Your tribes help share your content as well. You guys can check out Tailwind FOR FREE. Click HERE!
