My mother could always make me learn about a subject that I found boring or just didn’t care for all together. She was a crafty mother if their ever was one.Her One Simple Trick To Make Your Kids Learn About Anything works to this day and I plan on using it with my children one day. She would make me learn new information without me even knowing. It was awful how she could just jab in some information about the Magna Carta or how Thomas Jefferson taught himself French in the most mundane of conversations. Looking back it was a lot better than learning in a traditional classroom with bunches and bunches of other students that are all out to make my life a living hell but that’s besides the point. I was homeschooled and would not change that for the life of me.
Now back to my mother, she was a teacher for twenty years and quit teaching when my baby sister turned two. She knew that her Dad (My Pap) did not have much time left and that she should spend as much time as possible with him, my sister, and I. She decided that her teaching talents would be best put to use on my sister and I solely. We both went to public school for part of our primary education. I stopped going to public school in the sixth grade and was homeschooled by my mother. She felt that she could do a better job educating me than any teacher at the Junior High. My sister soo followed suit when she was meant to go into the Fourth Grade. We were at home 24/7 with our mother with no escape. Some would think it was insane but we really got along pretty well.
When you are together for so long during the day educating your own children you find new and interesting ways to get them to learn. One thing that my mother discovered to teach us with no escape was to place books in the bathroom that looked interesting and made us learn without us realizing it because they were fun to read. My mother has placed Biographies, Cultural Literacy Books, What every third grader should know, and several others. She found ways to teach us at every turn. Do not underestimate how vulnerable you are and desperate you are when you are in the bathroom for something to read. It is ingenius really she found a way to teach us even when we were not having structured learning time.
This is the One Simple Trick To Make Your Kids Learn About Anything. Find ways to teach them at their most succeptable. Whether in the car or in the bathroom, you can always find ways to educate them and have them read. Keep books in the car and bathroom on subjects you want your child to learn about. Make sure to take away their electronics in the car too. Keep a little bucket in the front to place their electronics in that way they have no choice but to read or listen to what you have to say. It is cruel but it totally works. A lot of the knowledge I have I would not have if I was not being taught even when in the car or the bathroom.
Now I am going to list some of the kinds of books that my mother made me read when I was at my most vunerable and undistracted.
My Mother would put biographies that would take no more than ten minutes to read in the bathroom. I learned a lot about many of the most influencial people in history because of my mothers wicked tactics to get me to learn. I remember learning about Ghandi, Nelson Mandela, Elanor Roosevelt, and Julius Ceasar when in the car and bathroom. I enjoy reading biographies without being in the car and bathroom as well. I enjoy learning about the lives of other people. Learning the lessons of the people of the past can help prevent us from making the same stupid mistakes they made.
My mother would put books in the car and bathroom that were from the children’s section in the library and would cover theories and principles about science. From Dinosaurs to DNA you could have found it in the car or bathroom. All of the science I know is due to my mother’s sneaky methods because I absolutely abhore science. It was my worst subject and I really never cared to unravel the secrets of the universe. I was just happy living in the universe and traveling across the globe. I didn’t need to understand how the Earth works to enjoy it’s splendor. To me science was the equivalent of studying a foreign language but never speaking it. It was just stupid to me let’s put it that way. When’s the last time photosynthesis was needed in your everyday life. Unless your a botanist I think no of us need to.
3. Fun Fact Books
My mother would put in the bathroom mainly but in the car sometimes too books that covered a wide array of subjects in one publication. Children’s Encyclopedias, Cultural Literacy Books, to 1001 cool facts you didn’t know. These are nice in the bathroom because they give you a lot of information in two to three paragraphs. You don’t have to read a whole book on one subject but a few sentences on ten different subjects at a time. Knowing just a little about a lot of subjects is better than knowing everything about one.
The sky is the limit to how creative you can be to educate and homeschool your child. This is one of the ways my mother bent the traditional rules of teaching to help us learn stuff we really needed to know to be intelligent adults. My mother raised me to be a successful adult. The last thing she wanted for me was to peak after graduating high school. If your a parent who only wants the best for their child then don’t give up, don’t question your decisions either. If you feel like you cannot homeschool your children that is perfectly fine. Do not feel guilty because you pursued a career instead of proactively raised your children. Some parents can’t survive being home with their children all hours of the day every day of the week. It is hard, I personally know how hard it can be. There are times you just want to rip your sisters head off and feed it to the dog and other times you just want to run away and never see your parents again. Eventually you calm down and your ready to face your family once again. Whether you homeschool or not be sure you teach your children when you are with them. Help them to become an intelligent adult just like you.
